Redfish At Sebastian Inlet Area of Florida

Sebastian Inlet Redfish

Florida's Sebastian Inlet is a funnel and pathway into the IRL allowing schools of redfish and other marine life to traverse into the ocean and along the beaches of Brevard & Indian River County. Sebastian Inlet is a staging place for many species of gamefish to feed, spawn and migrate during different times of the year and redfish are often seen schooling on the surface during almost all seasons and certain tides.

Redfish are one of Florida's most popular sportfish and can be pursued both in the ocean and in the shallow water lagoons on Florida's coastlines. The mouths of inlets are natural pathways that often concentrate fish as they move between the Atlantic Ocean on Florida's east coast and the Intracoastal Waterway with it's tributaries, islands and sandbars. Anglers at the Sebastian Inlet area can have the best of both worlds when the weather cooperates as they can go in the ocean looking for tarpon, redfish schools and other gamefish like jacks and snook. If the weather is less cooperative fishermen can launch into the lagoon and fish around the many islands and mangrove shorelines with clear shallow water grass flats, sandbars and oyster beds.

There's no "set way" to catch a redfish in the Sebastian Inlet area, but drifting live bait in the inlet is one of the most productive for large breeders while throwing artificial's, pilchards or live mullet do well in the Indian River Lagoon itself. Captain Richard Bradley has lived and fished at Sebastian all his life and has honed his skill with over 25 years of "fishing experience" in the Sebastian State Park area including the Inlet and the Indian River Lagoon.

"Catching Several Redfish in the Indian River Lagoon adjacent to Sebastian Inlet with Captain Richard was productive and fun as we spent the day together searching for and finding redfish and other gamefish in his native waters on Florida's east coast."

Sebastian Inlet's Premier Redfish Guide

Hello,
Redfishing Guide in Sebastian FloridaWhen I first got my drivers license I took my $500 1969 Volkswagen beetle down to Sebastian Inlet to surf and fish as often as possible. This freedom allowed me to spend weekends camping under the Sebastian bridge with my surfboards and fishing rods exploring the mangrove shorelines and islands when the surf wasn't cooperating. During the night hours, I noticed a gentleman quietly fishing off the fenders by himself and as an inquisitive sixteen year old, I found myself watching as he pulled in redfish, snook and jacks with more success than anyone else. Sitting on a bucket of dead menhaden and casting patiently upstream this man inspired me to come back the following day armed to the hilt with a new fishing rod, leaders hooks and of course... a bucket of bait to sit my rear end on too. Over the next several years, I found myself fishing feverishly thru my college years at Sebastian and other south Florida Inlets refining techniques and tackle along the way. The experiences that I had night time fishing inlets over 25 years inspired me to share my fishing with anglers as a guide soon afterward and the rest..... was fishing history in the making...
God Bless,

Captain Richard Bradley

May Redfish
In Sebastian Florida

A favorite time of the year as the water is warming and the fish are moving from their winter haunts toward their summer play grounds. Many of the lagoon's islands and shorelines are prime target areas for redfish and snook. Redfish typically breed in the fall and late summer so many of the fish are on the look for food in the form of shrimp, crabs and various finfish. Look for redfish to be plentiful in the shallow water grassflats in the Indian River lagoon and during the top of the outgoing and incoming tides in the inlet.
