Mangrove Snapper

Summer Fishing Fun at Sebastian Florida

Tuesday October 24, 2017

I don't get out in with my kids enough, but when they were younger... This trip always stands out in my mind. Savannah, Mom & Mekenzie on a summer day trip at Sebastian for mangrove snapper in the flats. They limited us out in a couple of hours, got sunburned and then returned for a sunburned nap in the car home.

Look to July and August for productive mangrove snapper fishing in the shallows of the lagoon near Sebastian Inlet.

Fishing Reports

This October of 2017 has been a great time for fishing on the Mosquito Lagoon lately! Anglers are catching big bull redfish on top water plugs and finding large schools of spawning redfish on the deeper flats adjacent to sandbars and dropoffs (especially around bait pods). As the winter deepens we should be getting these monsters up on the backside of the flats wagging their tails like hand waving pageant queens in their limosines in the cool Florida winter sunshine (weird analogy eh?). With the cooler weather the redfish have become very active and eager to eat. I believe they are still in spawning mode and will remain that way thru the end of October and into November. If we have a mild winter, expect the spawn to continue for a few more weeks and then they should settle into a winter pattern that's exciting for fly fishermen on the warmer VERY shallow flats. As a shallow water guide, I have one of the best skinny water boats in the industry which is a must for many of the shallow water Lagoons in our are (particularly the Mosquito Lagoon).

Also keep in mind that as the winter materializes the fishing pressure usually decreases on the Mosquito Lagoon and redfish are more likely to be cooperative in the extremely shallow waters perimetering the waterways. The Indian River Lagoon and Banana River Lagoon comes to mind.

As always, call us and ask for Captain Gina to set up a fishing trip with one of our experienced Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Guides this winter.
